Beibu Gulf square is a comprehensive city center square. Its design takes status quo ante into full consideration and creates a new image of a modernized city square. It composes an unity pattern in space and shape with a prominent center,
unified and coordinated space gradation and nature and artificial work is well blended. The square, having a vivid open and street-like quality, shows an avenue square feature of the subtropics. In the meanwhile, it serves as a city public activity place by reserving and utilizing historical and traditional buildings and pouring into local culture and folk custom.
A sculpture called South Pearl Soul which is novel, unique and bueatiful in design tower aloft on the green Beibu Gulf square reflecting the feature of the pearl city. Three joint white shells, 15 meters high, in which a stainless steel ball is set, open widely in three directions, resembling three pearl shells holding a big bright south pearl which is renowned at home and abroad. Under the shells are three graceful statues pearl, goodness and sea.
Beihai aquarium is located in the north of the urban district and together with Qingdao Apuarium are listed as China 's biggest aquatic exhibition centers.
With a building area of 1600 sq.meters, the aquarium has 7 showrooms and aquariums, green turtle pool and seal pool. Over 670 kinds of marine creature specimens of Beibu Gulf are shown here and exhibits amount to 2800. Among them, the rare animal dugong (the popular name being mermaid) is the most attractive.
In addition, there is the skeleton of a whale which weighs over 5,000 kilogrammes, big lobster specimen of several kilograms, world-famous South Pearl and a living turtle which is over a hundred years old and 100 kilograms. The aquarium also breeds over ten kinds of subtropics fishes of Beibu Gulf . Visiting the aquarium is just like wandering in the ocean world. You will widen your horizon and have better knowledge of ocean science.

Silver Beach on the southern coast of the city extends for 24kilometers. It is a nature bathing location and it's famous for its “long and smooth beach, white and fine sand, lukewarm and clean water, mild and gentle waves”.
It's known as National Holiday Resort and selected as The Key Scenic Spot of China in 1992.
Facilities of traffic, communications, water and electricity, hotels, restaurants, entertainment are all provided conveniently in the holiday resort. Every year, millions of tourists are attracted here and it has became a newly risen idle place for holiday in the south of China .
At the southwest end of Lianzhou town of Hepu county, and with a history of nearly one thousand years, the pavilion, now in Lianzhou Middle School , was built during the year of Jing in North Song Dynasty
( 1004A .D~ 1007A .D). :Later generations built the pavilion in order to commemorate the Hepu prefecture of Han Dynasty , who was honest in performing his official duties. The pavilion was named as Cape because it was close to sea at that time and it's the cape of the South sea. Through rebuilding, repairs and remove of Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties, the pavilion had been moved here from the former site of one quarter of a kilometer away southwest of the county.
Thirty meters northeast of the pavilion is a baffle pavilion and more than ten meters off in the southeast stands a Chief Star building. Heaven Concubine Temple is at the west end of it. A Golden Wave Lake is at the south end and across which there's a Golden Wave bridge which links up Cape Pavilion with Chief Star building.
Cape Pavilion is divided into two maim parts. The gatehouseis the entry. In the middle of the gatehouse there is a great-circle arched door with two sikedoors on both sides. Four words “Sea Sky Great Mirror” is set over the front door. Some expressions like “Rinsed Moon” and “Clear Cloud” are carved on the sidedoors. The couplet on the front door says to the effect that only if you come to this pavilion can you know the mountains stretching far away like elephants groups and only if look from this pavilion can you see the sea waves and clouds extending several thousand miles. In the middle of the gatehouse there is a about 90-centimeter long, 50-centimeter wide stele on which a word “goose” written with one stoke by Taoye in Qing Dynasty was carved.
Futher inside is the main building of the pavilion with scarlet wall, lazurite and emerald green glazed tiles and beam full of sculpture and paintings. The pavilion is square with corridor all around. The front door is linked with the back door and widows and doors on both sides are symmetrical. On eaves board caved some designs of animals and plants and historical figures. A couplet inscribed by Chen Siquan during the years of Daoguang in Qing Dynasty was engraved on two old pillars in the front of the pavilion. At the back, there is a huge stele caved “Old Cape Pavilion”. Above the back door of the pavilion was hung a horizontal and inscribed board of “Looking up to the sky very far away”. It is Shu Dongpo who wielded his brush to write in Cape Pavilion as he reached Lian Zhou from Zhan county afer being remitted in the third year of Fuyuan ( 1100 A .D.). But the board has disappeared after several times of building and abolishing and now in the pavilion is hung another one imitated according to the written style of him.

The Weizhou island is the biggest volcanic island in China . With dense vegetation, beautiful landscape and simple and honest people, it is particularly rich in lava eroded caverns and varieties of sea animals. It's where people are longing for. The Weizhou isand is the migarating place, many varieties of migratory birds and stay birds perch on it. This offers a thrilling view.
The Weizhou island is 36 nautical miles away from the city proper with a total area of 24.7 square kilometers. Two arches of East and West exist in the south of the island just like crabs lying in the water. With an area of 1.9 kilometers, the Xieyang island is 4.5 kilometers from the Weizhou island. It is where the spetacular view of the sun slantingly setting can be seen, hence the name Xieyang island. And it also enjoys the reputation as “the big and small Penglai Island ”. More than 40 scenic spots of the two islands such as volcanic eruption, volcanic mouth, marine living things are mainly distributed along the coast. Eroded landforms are strange and lifelike and some sea scenery are rarely seen.
Piglet Ridge: Under the east cape of the Weizhou island, there is a cave called Turtle Cave because of the turtle-like stone at the entrance. 200 meters off, a small island with the shape of piglet rises straight up in the bay, so it's called Piglet Ridge.
Draining Curtain: Formerly called Draining Cliff, Draining Curtain is located at the south coast of draining village. The precipice is covered with green trees and some water flows over from the cracks of the cliff. The water falls dribs and drabs just like a hanging pearl curtain. Owing to wave erosion, exterior of the cliff looks like a giant flank man's head sculpture with eyes, nose, mouth and hair. The scene is very beautiful.
Underwater Colored Ribbon: Underwater colored ribbon is the underwater spectacle which is formed by banding coral reef of the east, north and southwest of the island. Through the clear seawater, colorful, bright and eye-dazzling living coral can be seen. Aquatics of different shapes and sizes such as jellyfish, conches, sea stars etc. are roving without ceasing. Besides these, there are two churches of French Gothic style built in 1580s, the miraculous three old women temple and the mystic thief cavity. Climbing up to the top of the island, you could enjoy sunrise, sunset, and all the spectacle scenery.
The Xieyang island is a steep cliff with the dangerous posture. A Gothic church built during France Renaissance period stands on it. Baa summit is the highest peak of Beihai . In the west of the summit, there is a Baa Cavity no access to it except by rope suspension from the mountain peak, it's exciting and thrilling adventure.

The Star Island Lake is located at Hongchao reservoir which is 24 kilometers away from Hebu county with a lake surface area of 600 square kilometers and 1026 islands of different sizes and shapes.
Trees in the island are densely wooded and dark green and just like a bright star spead onto the crystal clear water and green waves. The beautiful scenery of the lake and the hills makes it a nice summer resort. The General Grave hidden underwater shows a mysterious color. Since It was used as the location to film the TV play Outlaws of The Marsh, it's now a tourist attraction.

Shankou Mangrove Nature Reserve is one of the first five marine type reserves established in China under the approval of the State Council.
Mangroves are a group of unique trees and bushes which mostly occur within tropical and subtropical coastal areas. For this reason, mangrove trees are often referred to as “forests in the sea”. They are viviparous and the uniqueness of the propagules has not only aesthetic but also scientific appeal.
Mangroves in Yingluogang are among the well-developed mangroves in China and now under careful protection, covering an area of around 260 ha. The pure Rhyzophora stylosa forest there is uncommon, probably the largest patch of this species in China, and hence widely appreciated. With its thick tree crown and twisted and intricate stilt roots, the trees present a lovely scene.
During high tide, a boat tour in the mangrove forest will give you an unforgettable experience as singing birds fly around and lovely fishes swim under your boat. In the vicinity of the mangrove reserve is a dugong (category 1 protected animals in China) reserve.

Guantou Ridge, 8km away from the urban, lies down at the southwest end like a green dragon with the ridge length of 6km . The highest peak is 120 meters high. Climbing up to peak, sunrise, sunset, great waves and the charming lights on fishing boats at night are all within your eyeshot. Facing the sea, there are erosive flat and stiff cluffs which are strewn at random with all kinds of postures. At the root of the mountain, there is a cliff named Dragon King, in front of which the tide sound is thunderous.
Dashi pavilion, which is located in Yongan Village of Shankou Town 85 kilometers southeast of Hepu county, is also called four-row building. The attic of the pavilion was once used for sacrificing to Guanyin. Hence the name Dashi Pavilion.
It was built at the beginning of Ming Dynasty and was rebuilt once during the year of Daoguang of Qing Dynasty. It's one of the old buildings which is closest to the sea in China .
The whole building is a beautiful and solid entity because of its reasonable and harmonious structure. According to annals, Hepu suffered storm attacks and earthquake from Ming Dynasty to Qing Dynasty, many farmhouses collapsed a couple of kilometers around but only Dashi Pavilion stands intact. The pagoda is of great scientific and artistic research value in architecture. Dashi pagoda is listed as a national key relics protection unit.
Dongpo pavilion is located in Hepu teachers school. Su Dongpo lived in Qingye garden during the third year of Yuanfu in Song Dynasty. Although two-mouth living is a short time, he created some poems like “Lianzhou longan delicious enouth to rival litchi” and “Staying in Jingxing yard on a rainy night” and some notes as “Hepu old men's saying” etc. In order to commemorate him, later generations constructed Dongpo Pavilion which has been rebuilt later in the site of the former Qingye garden. It's a two-layer pavilion style with a brick and timber structure like Resting Peak . Above the front door of the main pavilion hangs a big word board “Dongpo Pavilion” which was written by Tie Buddhist in Six Banyan Temple of Guangzhou. In the front wall of the pavilion set a carved status Su Dongpo and steles of ten works of his poems and articles.
A well named Dongpo is to the east of the pavilion which was dug by Su Dongpo himself on old saying and its water is clear and sweet. In the east side of the pavilion is a Dongpo Garden in the middle of the lake. The murmuring lake water gently flows and weeping willows serve good shade and all of this make up a beautiful scenery. Dongpo Pavilion became an key historical relics protection unit and Hepu tourist site in the county.

Graves of Han Dynasty are three kilometers southeast of Lianzhou town of Hepu county. They belong to ancient Chinese graves over a thousand years ago.
Ancient Chinese graves are divided into earth pit graves and brick pit graves. Those who were mostly government officials and their assistants coming from the south and immigrants were buried with many mortuary objects after they died in Hepu because honourable burial prevailed in Han Dynasty. Unearthed artifacts of these years include copper phoenix lamp, copper house, pearl, agate, amber, pottery house, ceramics ect.
These relics provide life historical information for us to study our ancient military, art, culture, politics, economy and friendly contacts and trade with people of Southeast Asia countries. It belongs to the key relics protection unit of Guangxi Autonomous Region.
Wenchang Pagoda is about two kilometers south of Hepu county. It was built in the 40 th year of Wanli in Ming Dynasty (1613 AD) and has a long history of over 300 years. The pagoda, 36 meters high, is octagonal with 8.1 meters high tower base and 2.6 meters inside diameters. It is narrower and narrower layer by layer from the bottom layer upward. The spire is a model of a red calabash. Every layer opens west and east ventilation doors and others are false ones used for decoration. The body of the pagoda is white and the edges and arched doors are red. The white and red color is well matched so that the pagoda looks simple and handsome.
The temple, built in 24 th Guangxu year (1898) in Qing Dynasty, is located in Tea Pavilion Road of the city.
At that time, a Taoist of Qianyu cavity called Wu Jingquan gathered Beihai charity circle Lian Qizhen, Huang Rizhang, Chen Jueyu etc. to collect contributions from compatriots of Hongkong and Macao to build the temple.
Zhongtian palace, Golden Mother palace and Land Mother palace are the main buildings of the temple in which Zhongtian palace was pulled down for broadening Tea Pavilion road in 1987.
The temple sacrifice deity and Buddhist statues and it's an unity of Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism. Structures of the two existing palaces are roughly the same. Sideroom stands at either side of the main hall in which there are main rooms and subordinate rooms.
On the top of the ridge two lazurite dragons are playing with pearl. In the main hall there is carve decoration of flowers, plants and birds. And there is mural set in the front wall of the gallery. A poet named Liang Hongmao of Qing Dynasty described the temple as topping the rest of its kind in Beihai.

The World Exhibition Center of Shellfish & Coral is the first and the largest live shellfish and coral exhibition center in China . Now it is also the only large oceanarium in China that has the ability to breed coral. The Center becomes a new touring spot in Beihai. It is located along the middle section of the South Sichuan Road which leading directly to the Silver Beach in Beihai and talking up an area of 15 mu. This Center has a collection of over a thousand kinds of shellfish and coral from around the world, thus vividly presenting a gorgeous sea world to you. It is unique for it does not follow the many other aquariums that have an old-fashioned mode of exhibiting marine fish-blazes a new trail in the exploration of the mysterious sea world.

Also named Zhongshan Street and Zhuhai Street . They are the two oldest streets in Beihai, built around 1883.Since Beihai became a commercial port in 1876, a number of western companies from countries such as Britain , France , Germany and Holland set up their businesses around this area. The architecture reflects its colonial past with an interesting mix of Chinese and European influence and some extraordinary contemporary structures. At Sea Beach Park , "Chao", the largest pearl musical fountain in China , comes alive each evening in brilliant colors. The main body of the fountain is a big steel ball encircled with seven flying fairies holding olive in hand. Each sculpture is vivid showing a marvelous picture. “Chao ” is a combination of traditional humanism and modern sculpture architecture art.
From May 1 st ,2005, a new 3D film is showed on water screen in the musical fountain. Music, lively 3D cartoon, varieties of colors can bring you a wonderful sea world.
