Land
The total area of cultivated land is78643 hectares with 1.16 mu per peasant including paddy field of 51911 hectares, which is 66% of cultivated land and dry farmland of 26732 hectares.

Geological Structure and Landform
The terrain of Beihai slopes from north to south. In the northeast and northwest stands a group of hills and along the southern coast lies both plateau and plain. In the city proper,more than 70% of the land lies in the seaside plain whose average height is 10-15 meters above sea level. The soil here is made up of sandy clay and sands and has a geological pressure-bearing power of 18 － 25ton per square meter. Therefore the layer structure is stable. The ocean beach, with a low bearing power of 12~16ton per square meter, is about 20% of the city proper. The 554-meter highest peak is in Wudian Plum and the 120-meter highest point of urban area is in Guantou mountain.

Morning and evening tide
The tide in Beihai is a hybrid form. The tide level is 2.51 meters high in average, while the highest one is 6.06 meters above sea level and the lowest one 0.06 meter below sea level. The maximum current velocity of the tide is 0.23 meter per second when the tide flows and is 0.45 meter per second when the tide ebbs.

Petroleum and Natural gas : The Beibu Gulf is one of the six largest oil and gas basins in China . The proved reserve of petroleum is 22.56 million tons and reserve of natural gas is 35 billion cubic meters.

Mineral resources : This area has a proved reserve of 30 million tons of Quartz sand with the SiO2 content of 98%. The reserve of gypsum(CaSO4) here is proved to be 271 million tons, containing 70.97% calcium sulfate (average value). Figuline, with the proved reserve of 189 million tons, contains 24~32% Al2O3 and 52.5~64.8% SiO2. Ilmenite has a proved reserve of 1,26 million tons, containing 52~60% TiO2.

Marine resources : Beihai has a coastline of 500 kilometers which starts from Yingluo Gulf bordered on Lianjiang of Guangdong in the east to Dafengjiang Port bordered on Qingzhou city in the west. Tidal-flat area is 730,000 mu. Beibu Gulf fishery covers an area of 160,000 square kilometers with more than 500 varieties of fish species and more than 10 kinds of shrimps. The reserves, of 700,000 tons, creat an annual fishing capacity of 330,000~350,000 tons. Tidal-flat area (tide zone) is 726,770 mu, including shallow sea area (at a depth of 0-10 meters)of 2,263,400 mu. Breeding area is 210,000 mu including the area breeding in water surface 87,300 mu. The average thickness of seawater is 3 Baume, containing 55~60ppm bromine.

Fresh water resources : The total water volumn is 34.97 billion cubic meters with the total capacity of reservoir is 2.151 billion cubic meters including 1.077 billion cubic meters of available storage. There are 93 rivers in the area with the total length of 558 kilometers and the drainage area of 2324 square kilometers. Annual total run-off is 9.187 billion cubic meters including 1.82 billion cubic meters inside the border. Total fresh water resource amounts to 11.88 billion cubic meters in which 3.917 billion cubic meters can be used. The groundwater reserve of the city proper is 2 billion cubic meters with average producing capacity of 902,000 cubic meters every square kilometer. Each person has 3300 cubic meters, which is 1.3 times of the whole country.

Port resource : Beihai is the earliest foreign trading port and one of the famous starting ports of the Marine Silk Route . In history, it's one of the main terminal centers between Yunnan , Guizhou , Sicuan , Hunan , Hubei , Guanxi etc. and overseas trade. The geological location plays an important role.

Beihai port includes Beihai old port, Shibu hill port, Tieshan port and Dafengjian port. Beihai has a very rich port resource. Many different types of berths can be built up here. Recently, Shibu hill port and Teishan port are under construction.

(1)   Beihai old port: The coastline length is 1000 meters. It is planned to be the middle, small-scaled passenger and cargo wharf. It has 7 berths now in which there is a roll-on-roll-off wharf for 1000-ton ships and the maximum one can anchor1000- ton ships.

(2)  Shibu hill new port: With two berths for 10,000 tonnage, one for 20,000 and one for 35,000 tonnage newly built, the coastline of the port is 4000 meters. In order to make full use of the coastline, Shibu hill port plans to build 25 berths for 10,000-ton ships with the three jetty and four port pond form (contains one passenger transport). Details: one port pond builds 9 berths, two port pond builds 7 berths, three port pond builds 6 berths, four port pond builds 3 berths.

(3)   Tieshan port: With a long coastline and good construction condition, two berths for 10,000 tonnage are being built in Teishan port. From the bay mouth through trough to the inner bay, water region with natural water depth above 5 meters is 217000 meters with natural water depth above 10 meters is 9000 meters. A large of deepwater ports can be built by long-term plan .Through the western trough to natural ditch outside the bay, water region with natural water depth above 10 meters is 6000 meters and with above 15 meters is 2800 meters.

The deep trough above 10 meters from Zhuluokou of western bay to Yingdi is 6000 meters long. Specific-purpose wharf for 100,000 to 200,000- ton ships such as coal, crude oil, steeliron etc. large-scaled berths can be built here. With a reserved industry coastline of 18600 meters long, 60- 85 deep-water berths can be built. 7000 meters from Poweidi to the south of Shitoubu is planned to built 25-35 commercial berths of big, middle-sizes.

(4)   Dafengjian Port : Suitable to build a batch of berths for 5000 tonnage. It hasn't been planned yet.

Tourist resources: As a subtropical seaside city, Beihai has plenty of beautiful scenery and sunshine. It is warm and humid. The air is fresh and clean with a high anion content of 2500~5000 per cubic centimeter which is 50~100 times higher than inland cities. With “sea, sun and sand”, which are the indispensable elements of seaside tourism, Beihai is good for developing seaside tourism and has great prospects. The seashore, scenery, artificial and historical interests are the four major tourist resources of this city.

Subtropical synthetic plant resources: Having fertile soil, abundant sunshine and plenty of rainfall, Beihai enjoys an advantage of growing subtropical agriculture, forestry and economic crops. It is rich in grain, peanut, bluish dogbane, jute, sugar cane, silkworms, mulberry etc. Beihai also possesses rich forest resources. The total forest coverage is 78,700 hectares. There are also many kinds of subtropical fruits such as mandarin, orange, longan, lychee, artocarpus, mango, banana and so on.
